How to choose intro music for a podcast

Updated 29 October 2026

Your intro sets the tone in the first ten seconds. It should match the show, not be remembered more than the show.

  1. Decide the moodCalm and curious, energetic, warm, serious: write the mood in a few words.
  2. Make or upload itDescribe it and generate a clip or a full track, or upload music you have the right to use. Generated music is a draft: listen to it before you commit.
  3. Keep it shortUnder 15 seconds for an intro, and fade it out.
  4. Let it duckPut the music on the music lane. Ducking lowers it under your voice and brings it back afterwards.
  5. Save it as a templateMark the episode as a template so the next episode starts with the same intro.

Tip: Check the licence of any music you upload. You are responsible for what you publish.
