How to clean noisy podcast audio

Updated 29 October 2026

Background hum, a fan or a noisy street can make a good conversation tiring to listen to. There are three levels of fixing it, from light to heavy.

  1. Start with quick cleanIt tidies the recording and levels the voice. It runs on our side and costs no credits. For a decent recording this is often enough.
  2. Try studio voiceA fuller, closer sound: it removes rumble, evens the voice out and trims silence at the ends. Also free.
  3. Use AI noise removal for a rough roomIt sends the audio to an AI service that separates the voice from the background. It works on traffic, fans and echo, and uses credits per minute of audio.
  4. Compare before you decideVandcast shows how far the voice sits above the background before and after, in dB, and you can undo and try another preset.
  5. Stop it at the source next timeClose windows, turn off the fan, record on a soft surface. Cleaning helps, a quiet room helps more.

Tip: Do not stack every preset. One good pass sounds better than three heavy ones.
