How to record a podcast in your browser

Updated 29 October 2026

You do not need an app or a studio to record a usable episode. A browser tab, a decent microphone and a quiet room are enough.

  1. Pick the right microphoneIn Vandcast, open an episode and press Record. Choose your microphone from the list: a headset or USB microphone is much better than the laptop one.
  2. Check the levelTalk at your normal volume and watch the meter. You want it moving well into the middle without hitting the top. If it does, move back from the microphone or lower the input.
  3. Leave noise suppression offBrowsers can filter noise while recording. It often makes the voice sound thin. Record raw and clean it afterwards, where you can compare and undo.
  4. Record, then listen backUse the count-in, pause when you need to, and listen back before you keep the take. Re-record a part rather than fixing it later.
  5. Keep goingRecordings are uploaded into the episode. If the upload fails you can retry without recording again.

Tip: Quiet room, microphone about a hand-width from your mouth, headphones on so you do not hear yourself in the room.
